Audi ABT TT-R DTM

The Abt Audi TT-R is a prototype racing car of the German car manufacturer Audi , designed for exclusive use in the DTM . The TT-R was produced in four stages of development and developed privately by Abt Sportsline for the new edition of the DTM from 2000 onwards. The TT-R competed against the Opel Astra V8 Coupé and the AMG-Mercedes CLK-DTM .

Christian Abt became the last Super Touring Car Cup champion on an Audi A4 Quattro in 1999. After Team Abt Sportsline had already taken over Audi's plant assignment in STW after its withdrawal in favor of the upcoming Le Mans project back in 1999, the company also decided to start in the revived DTM . The agreement to participate in the DTM race, team boss Hans-Jürgen Abt got only on 31 January 2000 by the organizer ITR.

Abt-Sportsline developed the TT-R in 100 days and had the four emergency vehicles for the 2000 DTM season built by the British company Foss-Tech . Since at the beginning of the development of the TT-R the future competitors Mercedes Benz and Opel drove their employment vehicles already for extensive tests on the racetrack, the backlog in the first season was very large and the TT-R drove piloted by Christian Abt , James Thompson , Kris Nissen and Laurent Aïello mostly behind the field.
